OTTAWA, ON – Member of Parliament Garnett Genuis, issues statement on the 1984 Darbar Sahib Massacre:
"Today, we pause in memory of the many innocent lives that were taken 34 years ago during a co-ordinated attack on the Darbar Sahib, commonly known as the Golden Temple. The Sikh community endured a great suffering from the orchestrated and targeted attacks against their culture, their people, and their holiest shrine."
“As we remember the many Sikh lives that perished, we must resolve to learn the lessons of this dark chapter in India’s history."
“Canada’s Conservatives will always be a staunch defender of freedom, tolerance and justice wherever these cherished values are under attack. On today’s anniversary, we join the Sikh community and all Canadians in remembrance, and in the hope for justice, peace, reconciliation, and a firm resolve to never see these atrocities repeated.”
